DIM PROJECT - NAPKINS turned to PILLOWS
so happy about a couple of things. FIRST THING... that i finally took a couple of sewing lessons from my friend (Laura Prince - SEW INSPIRED). my mom gave me a fab little sewing machine when i was first married (yes, 13 years ago) and i just recently busted the thing out to begin doing a bunch of fun sewing projects. SECOND THING i'm happy about is that i was able to sew a couple of super cute accent pillows for my lil' house.

oh...and did i mention that this first pillow project was made from cocoa/ivory toile fabric napkins found at a local thrift store. (4 napkins for $2.00). oh sure...toile may be a little outdated...but like... who cares...i still like it.

i also used a cocoa/ivory ticking stripe fabric remnant from a past project which worked out great as a coordinating back fabric. made 2 shams.

and so, the finished napkin/pillow project complete and a new addition to family room. i must say... i'm actually a little impressed with myself.

FAB LIGHTING STYLES

i've been working on a kitchen redesign for client with a style that i define as 'modern country.' we're doing black shaker style lower cabinets, set on an ashy-style oak floor and black wall shelves against a linen-grey colored wall. still deciding on a countertop (torn between carrera marble or a neutral limestone) ANYWHOO....because the foundation of the kitchen is fairly simple i'm proposing to add touches of whimsy to the space with uber-fab lighting options. my client needs lighting above the apron sink, above the eat-in bar and in the center of the kitchen space in general. so, in researching lighting options i came across BARN LIGHT ELECTRIC and their fabulous lighting options good for 'rustic, barn, vintage and modern' styles. prices are reasonable...and you most definitely need to check out their industrial farmhouse pieces as well. (note: stay tuned for b&a photos of this kitchen project. scheduled to finish in 5 weeks)

A QUICK STYLING & STAGING PROJECT

i was lucky enough to wrap up 2010 with a quick styling & staging project for a revamped little beach cottage in downtown encinitas. my client had just finished the charmingly modern (and i mean...super sweet and cute) re-do and asked me to stage the property within a week so the home could hit the market next asap. so with a strict budget (under $4500) i pulled accessible... size appropriate furniture and accessories together from christmas eve through new years eve. my client was thrilled with the simply styled look...as it will undoubtedly help potential buyers envision themselves living in the fabulously adorable beach house. (p.s. sorry for the not-so-fab photos...they were taken with my phone)

HOLIDAY bridal party LUNCHEON
so, i share a charming little suite (in carlsbad village) with my talented friend hannah (from modern bouquet) ...one of her bridal clients wanted to host a bridesmaid luncheon for her closest girlfriends and other gals in the bridal party. long story long.....she currently lives in colorado, but her family and friends still live here in San Diego so she knew she wanted to have the luncheon for everyone when she came into town for the holidays. we had to come up with something clever...and we came up with the idea of hosting the luncheon on december 24th, christmas eve (exactly 6 months to the day of the actual wedding date). we thought it would be fun to create a festive lunch- full of girlish charm and a little bit of the Christmas spirit. who doesn’t love feminine, sweet and festive all rolled up into one? the brunch was themed around the pink bridesmaid dress that she had chosen 2 months ago, and would reveal to her friends that day. her plan was to ask each girl to be a bridesmaid at her wedding after the big reveal. a color palette of shimmery whites and soft pinks combined with traditional holiday accents for the flowers, invitations and tabletop décor. we created a mock up for her at the suite 3 weeks ago, and my other talented suite mate chelsea (from chelsea anne photography) took pictures for us to send to the bride before she came into town. all printed pieces combined a little vintage nostalgia feel with modern charm. the inspirational piece (the bridesmaid dress) is adorned with a coordinating cluster of flowers and a “will you be my bridesmaid” hang tag. each place setting is detailed with the bridesmaids name…and a personalized note written for each guest by the bride herself. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

the SWEET SUITE on STATE STREET
just a quick shot of the new window signage that was installed over the weekend. the white lettering on the outside window goes perfectly with the shades of whites on the charming lil' inside of the suite. the lil' suite on state street is available by appointment .... and has turned out to be the perfect spot to meet with friends and clients. me and the girls (photographer: chelsea of chelseaanne.com and florist: hannah of modern-bouquet.com) love the new view from the sidewalk.

FALL IS IN THE AIR
it's that wonderful time of year when the weather changes (well only a little bit of a change from our san diego summer weather), the kids are looking forward to a week of school vaction and clients ask me to begin styling their homes and shops for the holidays. just installed a fall-decor project for my fab client HOMETOWN REALTY based in san elijo. i've been so lucky to work with the owner ( Mary Maloney) from the beginning her boutique-style realty office began. we started with logo/identity and grew into the build-out, design and decor of her 'modern vintage loft' style office right in the hub of san elijo. although the big project is complete...i'm thrilled to style the place as needed...like for instance this holiday season. because the Hometown Realty office has a rather 'nostalgic-like' feel i designed pieces that worked as focal points (interesting vignettes) throughout the office comprised of natural textures of burlap, seagrass, twine and twigs along with tarnished vintage silver and mercury glass vessels. the vintage thanksgiving themed postcard images added a little touch of charm. now i'm so excited to create a my style board for Hometown's christmas/new years decor and installation.

COOL JEWEL WEEK at the workshop studio
what a blast! the premiere of my COOL JEWEL WORKSHOP SESSION has been so much fun for me (and the girls)! in addition to designing and making super fab couture crafts...it's such a joy for me to watch individual creativity shine in these young girls. to think that they all begin with the same blank slate, have access to the same tools and supplies (and snacks...hee hee) and yet they each create their own work of art. sooooooo fun to see! Jenna and Jamie (above) were workin' on their 'deco glam bracelets'...a project that was inspired by a recent browsing trip at a "free people" clothing boutique where they were for sale. today (the second day of the workshop session) i was thrilled to see 2 of the girls wearing their uber-cute bracelet sets. still to come this week..a funky wire cluster rings, upcylcled t-shirt necklace and a deco-glam dress form.
